The Honourable representative of the Chief Minister of Sabah, the Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Joseph Pairin Kitingan,

Distinguished guests,

Ladiesandgentlemen, dear friends,

Good evening!

It is indeed very pleased to once again gather together with all of you to celebrate the 67th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.  Today is the Autumn Equinox according to the 24 Solar Terms in China, which symbolized prosperous harvest season, wonderfully honoring today's celebration. Warmly welcome everyone!

In this eventful 67 years, China has been changing with each passing day. In retrospect, China has successfully lifted over 700 million people out of poverty and significantly made life better for its 1.3 billion-plus people. China has also developed into the world's second largest economy, the largest trader of goods and the third largest foreign direct investor, such remarkable achievement commands the attention of the world. For China, this year is the first year of the decisive stage in finishingbuildinga moderately prosperoussociety in respects and a crucial year in carrying out structural reform. China’s GDP expanded by 6.7 percent in the first half year, achieving theexpected target. Therecent proposal by Chinese Government of the five developmentvision, namely, innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development, will ensure a higher quality development to a better prospect with a more stable pace, hence leading to a stronger sense of accomplishment, achievement and happiness of the people.

Ladiesandgentlemen, dear friends,

Peace and development remain the two major themes in today's world, and is also facing a series of new difficulties and challenges, such as the international fight against terrorism is getting complicated and challenging, and the development remains uneven. As the contributor to world peace, facilitatorof global development, as well as the proponentof the international order, China proposesthe concept of a community of common destiny of all mankind, aiming atmaintainingworld peaceand promotingcommon development.Early this month in theG20 HangzhouSummit, development issues, driven by China, isfor the first time to give priority in global macro policy framework. The Summit provides the blueprint and fleshes out action plans for building an innovative, invigorated, interconnected and inclusive world economy. As President Xi pointed out at the Summit, our goal is to ensure the benefits of growth and development shared among all countries and people, to ensure the life of people especially of people in developing countries becoming better off day by day.Two days ago, Premier Li Keqiangsaid at the United Nationson discussion of sustainable development that,as a responsible developing country, China is willing to participate in relevant international cooperation, share development experience and opportunities, and move forward together with the international community. The Belt and Road Initiativeput forwardby China, for example, is such a sharing initiative which has carried out cooperationwith many countries and achieved practical results in past three years.

Ladiesandgentlemen, dear friends,

If brothers are of the same mind, their sharpness can cut through metal. China and Malaysia are good neighborsandgood brothers, the amity is of long standing and lasting. Last November, two countries fully upgraded the bilateral relation to the comprehensivestrategic partnership, committed to become the model of a good-neighborly friendship in sharing mutual benefits. As an important node alongthe maritime Silk Road, Malaysia is the first country responded to the Belt and Road Initiative and is yieldinggood results.Malaysia has become China’s largest trading partner in ASEAN for eight consecutive years, and China has become Malaysia's largest trading partner for seven consecutive years. This year, China has become Malaysia's largest source of foreign investment in manufacturing. China Railway Engineering Corporation, China Electric Power Construction, and China Guangdong Nuclear respectively decided to set up their regional headquarters in Malaysia. The Malaysia City Project made a breakthrough in the progress, once again justified the soundChina-Malaysia friendly and cooperative relations.

The exchanges and cooperation in various fields between Sabah and China also show accelerating tendency. Hangzhou, as the major historical and cultural city, as well as business center of China, has impressed the world by successfully held the G20 Summit. What makesus more joyfulis that the friendly exchanges between Kota Kinabalu and Hangzhou has achieved substantial progress and high-level delegationsvisittoeach othersare undergoing. Lets expect the establishment of friendship cities relation soon! The largest rubber plantation in Malaysia, owned by a China-Malaysia joint venture company, starts harvestingthis year, this will provide 5,000 jobs locally in the future, as commentedby the State’s Chief Minister a sustainable development and win-win project. China for years is Sabah's largest tourist source country, till now this year there are more than 250,000 Chinese tourists have cometo Sabah, increase by 48% compared with the same period last year, which greatly boosted the State's tourism industry. I do hope that this good momentum could be kept on. More direct flights and routes connecting Sabah and various cities of China, more frequentcultural exchangesand economy and trade visitsalong withmore specific cooperative intention. With such a good tendency, we can expect more pragmatic collaboration projects and results in the future.

This year, the Consulate General is continuely making its best efforts to promote bilateral friendship, by organizing volunteer medical clinic, supportingChinese education, helping vulnerable groups, promoting culture and people to people exchanges, arranging government and media delegationsto visit China, etc..Notably to referthat last year in this occasion I announced the opening of Chinese visas and passport services before the year end, which was started as scheduled after our colleagues tried their best to overcome difficulties. To date, nearly ten thousands visas were issued, which has greatly facilitated local friends and promoting bilateral exchanges.

Ladiesandgentlemen, dear friends,

The large curtain of the China-Malaysia "Diamond Fortieth" relationship has just drawn open, the bright future of friendly exchanges and collaboration between China and Sabah-Labuan is at hand. We may encounter various difficulties and challenges along the path, again, I would like to quote whatPresident Xi said in the Hangzhou Summitthat, we mustkeep up with the changing times and lead the way forward, fully honor the commitment and take practical actions, deliver benefits to all through joint efforts, and stick together as partners in meeting challenges and help each other in difficulties.Let us toast to wish the prosperity, happiness and good health to the people of China and Malaysia, everlasting friendship of China and Malaysia!

Thank you all!
